Our Story

Amberveil began from a simple observation: mechanical watches are often more than just timekeeping devices. They carry memories, mark occasions, and sometimes represent years of saving. Yet the repair process can feel transactional, rushed, or impersonal.

Established in George Town in 2018, our workshop was founded on the belief that watch repair should be approached with appropriate care. Not every timepiece requires haute horlogerie treatment, but each deserves consideration and honesty about what it needs.

We've spent years understanding mechanical movements, from simple date complications to complex proprietary calibres. This knowledge allows us to provide realistic assessments and appropriate repairs, whether you're bringing in a cherished family heirloom or a daily-wear automatic.

Our location in Penang has been thoughtfully chosen. The heritage city attracts collectors and enthusiasts, while the tropical climate presents particular challenges for watch storage and maintenance. We've adapted our practices to these local conditions.

Our Standards

The principles that guide our work with every timepiece.

Honest Assessment

We provide clear explanations of what your watch needs, what can wait, and what realistic outcomes look like. Not every issue requires an expensive intervention.

Appropriate Tools

Our workshop is equipped with the tools necessary for movement servicing, case work, and crystal replacement. We invest in equipment appropriate to the work we undertake.

Clear Communication

You'll receive updates during the service process. If we discover additional issues or if timelines need adjustment, we'll let you know promptly.

Privacy & Security

Timepieces left with us are stored securely. We maintain discretion regarding the pieces we service and their owners. Your personal information is handled with care.

Documented Process

For haute horlogerie services, we photograph key stages of the work and maintain detailed records. This documentation is available to the owner.

Realistic Timelines

We provide honest estimates for service completion. Some repairs cannot be rushed. We'd rather give you an accurate timeframe than make promises we can't keep.

Our Values

Respect for the Timepiece

Every watch that comes through our workshop receives appropriate attention, whether it's a simple service or a complex restoration. We understand that the monetary value doesn't always reflect the personal significance.

Respect for the Owner

Our communication is straightforward and considerate. We won't push unnecessary services, and we'll be honest if we think another specialist might be more appropriate for your particular timepiece.

Ongoing Learning

Watch manufacture continues to evolve, and new calibres appear regularly. We maintain relationships with other professionals in the field and continue developing our understanding of different movement architectures.

Local Expertise

Malaysia's tropical environment presents particular challenges for watch storage and maintenance. We've developed specific knowledge about managing humidity, temperature fluctuations, and the effects of our climate on different case materials and gaskets.
